A new season with plenty of competition opportunities began for the Dobřany judokas in January. The first tournament of the year was the Ing. Beneš Memorial in Plzeň. For the older pupils' categories it was important for gaining points toward participation in the Czech national championships. Dobřany was represented by Karolína Fojtíková and Barbora Kadlečková, and after long, evenly matched bouts both fought their way to the gold cup. Vašek Kule and Jan Šulc competed among the younger juniors, but neither made it close to the podium.

The following month, the RuKa JUDO club organized a KATA seminar (a set of model techniques for demonstration, practiced for master belts). The training was intended for judoka from 4th KYU upward. The practice itself was led by Petr Kämpf, regional vice-chair of the Czech Judo Federation. The seminar focused on Nage-no-kata techniques (the basic set of standing throws). Two successful events thus crowned the start of the year, giving the judokas valuable experience.
